DESCRIPTION

OLIB is a graphical user interface (GUI) builder, i.e. it lets the user create graphical user interfaces for arbitrary applications using a mouse-driven editor and automatically generates the source code for the user interface part of the application.

OLIB is entirely written in the object-oriented programming language Eiffel and as output it produces readable and commented source code for Eiffel 2.3 and Eiffel 3 compilers.

OLIB itself as well as the generated source code are based on XVI, a library of reusable Eiffel components encapsulating the XView toolkit from Sun Microsystems.

INSTALLATION

• Make sure you have installed the XVI library version 2.2 (or later) as well as a current version of Sun's XView library (freely available on the net).
• Compile the source code inside the directory `source'. At the moment you will probably need ISE's Eiffel compiler, because OLIB uses their library class STORABLE to load/store project files. However, this should change as soon as there are more ELKS-compliant Eiffel compilers out there.
• Make sure you have an environment variable called `OLIB_BITMAP_PATH' pointing to the directory `bitmaps' with OLIB's bitmap files. Then you should be ready to start OLIB.

TODO

• Editing command sequences is not very convenient with the current version. This will be changed in version 1.2!
• Update documentation ...
• Add code-generator modules for other languages than Eiffel
